The 1st State Open Javelin Throw Championship 2022, an event to commemorate the Gold medal win by Neeraj Chopra in Tokyo Olympics 2020, was recently organized by the Dimapur Athletics in collaboration with Nagaland Athletics, at Government Higher Secondary School Ground in Dimapur.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Mhalo Humtsoe said that one of the key reasons behind not excelling in sports was the advent of new technologies, which made the children reluctant to engage with outdoor physical activity. Another factor was the mindset of the society, including parents who encouraged kids to pursue white-collared jobs.
She hoped that the Championship would motivate young people to take up athletics and inspire them to develop self-control, gain self-assurance, and cultivate a positive outlook on life.
Under the Men Open category, Shilutemjen bagged the first position while Medo Linyu and Jeyalo Kath bagged the second and third position respectively and under the Women Open category, Ruulhoubeinuo bagged the first position while Vithonu Theyo and Netolu Medeo bagged the second and third position.
Meanwhile, under Boys U-16, Peramdihei Kereu bagged the first position while Iteisape Reunim and Tsibulie Nagi bagged the second and third respectively, and in the Girls U-16 category, Temjenrenla emerged first while Litika Singh and Arenpenla bagged the second and third position.
