The Meghalaya Chief Minister – Conrad Sangma today noted that the peace talks with the proscribed outfit – Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) have begun.
Addressing the Independence Day speech after the hoisting of Tricolour at the Polo Grounds in Shillong, the Meghalaya CM stated that “the state government is devoted to ensuring that the peace negotiations are finished as soon as possible. We appreciate the center’s assistance as well.”
He noted that the group has stated its desire for unconditional negotiations within the parameters of the Indian Constitution and that the state’s overall law-and-order situation continues to be peaceful.
Speaking on the vexed border dispute with Assam, the CM informed that the discussions to resolve the other six areas of differences will begin soon, after signing the historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in presence of the Union Minister of Home Affairs & Cooperation – Amit Shah.
