Agartala, September 5, 2022 : In order to mark the Diamond Jubilee celebration of Tripura’s Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) College here in Agartala city, a five-day long series of programmes have been kicked off on Monday with a colourful procession marching in and around the college campus.
The Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma flagged-off the five-day celebration event by participating in this procession on Monday morning. He was accompanied by Education minister Ratan Lal Nath, Tripura Tea Development Corporation chairman Santosh Saha, Higher Education Director NC Sharma, MBB University’s VC Dr Satyadeo Poddar and many others.
Sharing his thoughts on this significant occasion, Dev Varma said “We have flagged off the five-day long celebration programme of the 75th year of MBB College here. Many of us present here in this procession were students of this college. We have many treasurable moments to cherish. It is a historical college. This college had earned a good fame across the country.”
Speaking at the programme, Education minister Nath said that the last illustrious king of Tripura- Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishor Manikya Bahadur was the architect and founder of the pioneering institution of higher learning in the state which was established on September 09, 1947.
“As we are celebrating the 75th year of MBB College, the main programme will be held on September 09 which will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha while the 5-day long celebration event was kicked off by the Deputy Chief Minister Dev Varma. Several committees including a core committee was formed to make this celebration a mesmerizing event. During this five-day celebration, ministers, MLAs and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb will attend various events”, he said.
Paying tribute to Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Nath said “Today is Teachers’ Day. Every year, the state-level programme of this auspicious day is being celebrated at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan here in Agartala city. But this year, we brought the celebration programme to the campus of MBB College. A large number of meritorious students passed out from this college are now spread across the world in different professions. Students started studying during its inception in 1947 are still alive. At present, RN Chakraborty who was a student of this college in 1950 is present amongst us.”
