Incessant rainfall have been continuing to lash Arunachal Pradesh for the past few days, with the raging water of the mighty Siang river washing away more than a 3-kms section of Mebo-Dhola stretch; cutting-off the Namsing Circle in East Siang and Paglam Sub-Division in Lower Dibang Valley districts.
The incident occurred on the intervening night of September 4 & 5 near Namsing; and the affected villages include – Namsing, Mer, Gadum-I and Gadum-II.
Besides, power supply has been drastically hampered leaving the area into darkness; as a transformer, 29 high electric poles and 10 low such poles of a recently-restored line have been washed-off by the Siang River.
The Mebo legislator – Lombo Tayeng alongwith the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of East Siang – Tayi Taggu, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Mebo – Aeinstein Koyu, Namsing CO – Radhe Tatung and Executive Engineer of Power Department – Tarik Mize inspected the affected regions; and instructed the DC to submit a report on damages caused to the higher authority for redressal and relief.
The Power Department has also been directed to relocate the electric poles.
As per sources, the restoration work will take some time. However, the local populace alongwith the PWD are engaged in the temporary restoration of the road communication, while shifting the electric poles is likely to begin from today.
