The Deputy Chief Minister of Mizoram – Tawnluia today inaugurated the 46th edition of Cleanliness Week themed on ‘Waste Segregation at Source’ at MINECO Junction in Aizawl.
Addressing the event, Tawnluia stated that the annual cleanliness week is organized to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
During the event, thorough cleanliness drives are organized across various governmental departments, schools, colleges and other institutions, hospitals, markets and other public places.
He reiterated the significance of maintaining cleanliness not only during the week, but maintain it as a way of life which must commence from every residences.
The Minister also spoke about the plans to set-up various Solid Waste Management Centres in Aizawl; thereby aiming to reach the ODF Plus status under Swachh Bharat Phase-II.
Its worth mentioning that ‘Cleanliness Week’ has been observed across the northeastern state since October 2 of 1977.
