Northeastern CMs Condole Demise Of Veteran Politician – Mulayam Singh Yadav

The veteran politician & founder of Samajwadi Party (SP) – Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away today at a Gurugram hospital, after battling with prolonged illness. He was 82-years-old.

The stalwart had been under treatment at Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital since August 22. Formerly referred as ‘Netaji’ among his followers and party workers, Yadav is survived by the incumbent SP chief and the former chief minister of UP – Akhilesh Yadav.

Yadav has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) from the Mainpuri constituency in Uttar Pradesh. He had also served as the state’s chief minister thrice : from 1989-1991, 1993-1995 and 2003-2007; and held the post of Union Defence Minister from 1996-1998.

He had been elected to the UP legislative assembly ten times and seven times as Lok Sabha MP.

Mulayam Singh Yadav won his first election to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1967; and was elected the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for the first time in 1989. In 1992, he founded the Samajwadi Party.

The northeastern political stalwarts have also condoled the demise of Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Taking to Twitter, the Assam Chief Minister – Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that the death of SP leader Mulayam Singh Yadav was a colossal loss to Indian politics. “The demise of Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav ji is a colossal loss to Indian politics. For many decades he ruled the hearts of millions. I am pained beyond words. My condolences to @yadavakhilesh ji, family, friends & followers, who are all anguished at the passing away of Neta Ji” – he wrote.

Similarly, the Meghalaya CM – Conrad Sangma, Nagaland CM – Neiphiu Rio, Sikkim CM – Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), Manipur CM – N. Biren Singh, Tripura CM – Prof.(Dr.) Manik Saha has also condoled the demise of the veteran political leader.
