Chavang Kut, popularly known as the ‘Kut Festival’ is one of the much-awaited festivals for the Chin-Kuki-Mizo community (CHIKIM) of Northeast India, which marks the onset of autumn.
Celebrated with much zeal and enthusiasm, Chavang Kut is a post-harvest festival of the CHIKIM community and one of the biggest festivals of Manipur.
It is celebrated annually on November 1, to honor the blessings of the deity for a good harvest. Here, ‘Chavang’ means ‘autumn’ and Kut means ‘harvest’. The festival has evolved through time with the influence of other cultures of the world. There is no written or hard rule to be followed in the celebration of Chavang Kut but the display of the tribes’ traditional attires and cultural performances honoring their deity remain the core theme of Chavang Kut.
