The Arunachal Government has been striving to build a vibrant sports ecosystem and expand the sports infrastructure to support current athletes, and serve as a pipeline to create the next generation of Olympians.
Therefore, the Directorate of Sports (DoS) under the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs of Arunachal Pradesh, has been actively trying to implement initiatives and programmes to create a holistic ecosystem for the sportspersons and promote sports and youth-related activities.
According to an official bulletin issued by the Arunachal Chief Minister – Pema Khandu, “Since 2016, our players have bagged 314 Gold, 212 Silver and 277 Bronze medals. From national to international competitions, our players are bringing laurels to the state. Rs 383 lakh disbursed as cash incentive from 2015-16 to 2021-22 to talented sportspersons.”
Besides, the state government has also established ‘National Centre of Excellence’ at Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy by Sports Authority of India (SAI). While, 54 Khelo India Centres are being built across the state.
Its worthy to note that the Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy selected for State-Level Khelo India Centre for Archery, Judo & Weightlifting.
Taking to Twitter, the Arunachal CM wrote “Sports enhance a range of life skills. We need to adopt sports not only for winning medals but as a means of sustainable development by ensuring a healthy future for our people and the state too. Pace of sports infra capacity building will be maintained.”
