The Meghalaya Home minister – Lahkmen Rymbui has refused to comment on the ongoing peace negotiations with the proscribed outfit – Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).

Addressing the mediapersons on Wednesday, Rymbui asserted that no comments will be made, until a firm decision is undertaken on the matter.

“Let us give the peace talk a chance and let us hope that it proceeds as per plan,” Rymbui said. He, however denied that there was any stalemate involved in the process.

Rymbui added that preliminary talks have taken place with the outfit. “It is not a question of coming and going back to Bangladesh, it is a question that the dialogue has begun but they need to hold meetings between themselves,” he continued.

Its worthy to note that the five leaders of the HNLC had visited the state on August 5, to address the current tripartite peace negotiations between the Government of India, Meghalaya Government, and the group.

This was possible after the government had agreed to grant a safe passage to the outfit leaders. However, the five leaders had recently returned to Bangladesh.
