The Mizoram Governor – Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati arrived at Saitual town this afternoon to begin his 2-days-long tour of the district; discussed about wide range of topics and interacted with the officials of the district administration.
He also interacted with the leaders and representatives from the Churches, the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and the political parties. The Governor also congratulated the district officials for their exemplary achievement in the cleanliness initiatives which were acknowledged with the reward with national level awards.
Besides, the Governor also spoke with the officials on how various welfare and social security schemes are being implemented in the district to benefit the underprivileged sections of the society.
Additionally, he talked with officials and asked them about the provision of water, gas connections, electricity, MNREGA implementations, and school and college education.
He raised queries on schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana(PMUY) scheme, etc.
The Governor specifically requested the bankers to give more effort into generating awareness about the benefits of the schemes; and stressed the benefits of these social security schemes that can be availed with an annual subscription for a small amount of money. He urged the officials and the bankers to conduct more awareness campaigns.
He believed that any citizen would be willing to subscribe to these schemes if they are aware of these benefits. The problem now, according to his knowledge through his extensive interactions with various sections of society, is that the majority of the state population is still unaware of the existence of these schemes.
The Deputy Commissioner (DC) apprised the Governor about the potentials of this new functional district in the sector such as horticulture, agriculture, and eco-tourism.
He then highlighted the ongoing projects and initiatives within the district which included major projects like the construction of DC Office Complex, and the constructions of NH 06 and NH 102B.
The DC also reported the achievements made by Saitual District in the cleanliness initiatives, wherein the district bagged the award for the cleanliest district in the state and one of its towns, Ngopa town received the second cleanliest town in the state (Category-III).
