Commemorating the 75th years of Independence and celebrating India’s freedom struggle based on the theme “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, the Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister – Pema Khandu today called-for stressing on regeneration of forests with the support of community participation, conservation of biological diversity and preserving tribal culture.
He noted the same, while addressing the ‘Inception Workshop for Development of State Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan’ organized in association with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh; World Wildlife Fund (WWF); Arunachal Pradesh Biodiversity Board; and Department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change.
During this event, the Arunachal CM shared his visions and discussed on the importance of preparing a roadmap for the upcoming days. He also added that the state government has adopted a multi-pronged strategy to maintain environmental resilience.
“Biodiversity is the backbone of sustainable development and our food security. Conservation of biological diversity must be at the core of our collective pursuits to achieve SDGs,” – he added.
The Arunachal CM was also accompanied by the state Minister of Environment, Forests & Climate Change – Mama Natung, who attended the workshop as ‘Guest of Honour’.

Besides, the Arunachal CM mentioned that the state government has also commended the initiative titled ‘Air Gun Surrender Abhiyaan’ which invites the residents to voluntarily surrender their air pistols and stop indiscriminate killing of birds across the northeastern state.
Since its launch on March 2021, over 2000 air guns have been surrendered by residents across the state.
Considered as a community practice by various tribes residing along the hilly tract, hunting – basically which transformed into a blend of tradition & technology have proliferated during the recent times, thereby posing a grave threat to wildlife species.
Keeping in view of this risk of extinction, the Arunachal Pradesh Government through the concerned initiative aims to play a crucial role in the wildlife ecosystem, thereby preserving the rare and endangered fauna.
