Arunachal CM Felicitates Medal Winners Of ’36th National Games’

The Arunachal Chief Minister – Pema Khandu today felicitated the medal winners of ’36th National Games’ – the mega event held at Gujarat, after a hiatus of 7-long-yrs.

The northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh has clinched six gold medals and one silver medal in the Games.

During the felicitation ceremony, the Arunachal CM lauded the immense support of the President of Arunachal Olympic Association & Education Minister – Er. Taba Tedir and Hon’ble Sports Minister – Natung Mama for grooming athletes.

Taking to Twitter, the Arunachal CM wrote “Our athletes clinched 6 Gold & 1 Silver in #NationalGames. Felicitated our proud medal winners today! Lauded support of Arunachal Olympic Assn president & Hon Edu Min Shri @ErTabaTedir ji & Hon Sports Min Shri @NatungMama ji in grooming athletes.

“We are doing extremely well in every field and our achievements in sports have transformed the image of North East as well as that of Arunachal Pradesh. Let us continue the tradition of winning. Our youth are future of our country & we shall continue investing in them.” – he further added.

The small 17-member team of Arunachal Pradesh which attended the ’36th National Games-2022′ at Ahmadabad in Gujarat has created a record by winning two gold medals in weightlifting, four gold and one silver medal in Wushu.

Its worthy to note that the state government has been striving to build a vibrant sports ecosystem and expand the sports infrastructure to support current athletes, and serve as a pipeline to create the next generation of Olympians.

Therefore, the Directorate of Sports (DoS) under the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs of Arunachal Pradesh, has been actively trying to implement initiatives and programmes to create a holistic ecosystem for the sportspersons and promote sports and youth-related activities.

According to an official bulletin issued by the Arunachal Chief Minister – Pema Khandu, “Since 2016, our players have bagged 314 Gold, 212 Silver and 277 Bronze medals. From national to international competitions, our players are bringing laurels to the state. Rs 383 lakh disbursed as cash incentive from 2015-16 to 2021-22 to talented sportspersons.”

Besides, the state government has also established ‘National Centre of Excellence’ at Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy by Sports Authority of India (SAI). While, 54 Khelo India Centres are being built across the state. The Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy selected for State-Level Khelo India Centre for Archery, Judo & Weightlifting.
