Sikkim’s LGBTQ Community Marches With Pride; Calls-For Equality & Acceptance

LGBTQ Activists in Sikkim under the banner of ‘Prismatic&plus’ and ‘Rainbow Hills Association’ attended the Pride Walk in Gangtok on Sunday.

The walk which commenced from Deorali and culminated at Nar Bahadur Bhandari Degree College; witnessed the participation of hundreds of LGBTQ supporters who carried rainbow-flags, placards and chanted slogans for equality and acceptance.

Addressing the mediapersons after the rally, the President of Rainbow Hills Welfare Association – Tshering Wangchuck  asserted that “the pride walk strives to address issues concerning the LGBTQ community, raise awareness among the masses to overcome stigma and biases that surround them.”

“As per our survey, Sikkim is home to more than 500 people belonging to the LGBTQ Community, but stigma and discrimination leads them to hide their identity,” – he further added.
