Agartala, October 19, 2022 : Tripura’s Bharatiya Janata Janajati Morcha (BJJM) has demanded a proper investigation into alleged corruption in the areas under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). A copy of the memorandum has been submitted to Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya through 44 Sub-Zonal Development Officers in TTAADC areas across the state.

The memorandum stated “A rampant corruption and nepotism in the walk-in- interview’ for the recruitment of teachers have been noticed in TTAADC. We have also raised the issues many times but the authorities of TTAADC remained tight-lipped and unwilling to give any explanation on this matter, which shows the involvement of vested interest.”

The BJJM leaders claimed that the Tripura government released the fund of Rs 30 crore in a single installment on the request of TTAADC, taking into urgency for quality health service in TTAADC areas. It’s pathetic that the work is yet pending, and the funds allotted for this purpose have remained either unspent or have been deviated for other purposes, thereby depriving the indigenous inhabitants of Tripura of reaping the benefits of better health care.

“For construction of a multi-storeyed building on the existing land belonging to TTAADC in Agartala city, the state government had earlier sanctioned Rs 10 crore. This initiative has been taken by the state government in view of the large number of indigenous students, patients and youths come to state’s capital city for different purposes and have no proper place for accommodation. At present, there is a sudden decision to relocate the proposed Bhawan to Shillong in Meghalaya without any proper reason just for vested interest, which is quite evident”, the BJJM leaders alleged.

“The deserving beneficiaries were deprived. This is a thread scam of procurement and distribution violating all financial norms that are mandatory to be followed. There has been corruption and immoral practices in the admission of students into Khumpui Academy.” – stated the memorandum.

Claiming the ruling party in TTAADC is enjoying authority without accountability which revealed rampant embezzlement in various issues, the BJJM stated “The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has repeatedly asked for accounts and has sent several reminders. However, the TTAADC authorities have failed utterly to produce current accounts and accounts of previous years. This is a clear case of shielding the corrupt practices of the previous regime and it is also an attempt to evade their own corruption.”

They also demanded immediate action against the above-mentioned alleged irregularities committed by TTAADC in financial matters, nepotism, failing to provide accounts, and misappropriation of funds meant for public welfare. The leaders further demanded a proper investigation and issue of a “White Paper” on this matter within 15 days of submitting this memorandum.
