Agartala, October 26, 2022 : Within a week’s span, Tripura witnessed another gang-rape in Kalyanpur area of Khowai district where a minor girl has become the victim and three youths are accused of abducting and gang-raping her on the night of Tuesday last.

A senior official of Khowai district’s police administration said that a minor girl was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped by a group of three youths on the night of Tuesday last at Kalyanpur under Khowai district.

On Wednesday morning, an FIR was lodged with Kalyanpur police station against three persons – Aditya Das, Tapas Debnath and Ratan Debnath. Soon after the FIR, police detained Tapas Debnath within few hours. Police are searching for the other two accused persons- Aditya and Ratan.

Speaking to reporters, SDPO of Kalyanpur sub-division Prasun Kanti Tripura said “The minor girl, who was on her way home was kidnapped by a group of three people. She had been taken to an isolated place in a nearby jungle and sexually assaulted her. After the incident, the perpetrators left her in the jungle. Somehow, she managed to reach home and informed her parents about the ghastly night.”

“In the entire district, police teams started search operations. Involved persons in the crime against woman will not be spared . We are confident that all the accused persons would be detained at the earliest”, he added.

Police sources revealed that the police had lodged the case under sections 341, 325, 392, 354, 376 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the POCSO act against the accused persons.

It is worth noting that earlier on October 20, a case has been registered regarding an incident of gang-rape has taken place at Tripura’s Fatikroy area in Unakoti district. Based on evidence, police arrested six persons.
