Agartala, October 27, 2022 : When every opposition party in Tripura is demanding the removal of the cabinet minister Bhagaban Das and the arrest of the minister’s son over the Kumarghat gang-rape case, in just one week, another minor was raped in Unakoti district.
After the gang-rape in Kumarghat on October 19, this time a minor girl was raped at an area under Irani police station of Kailasahar sub-division in Unkoti district. In the incident of rape of this minor, there is intense fear in the entire Unakoti district.
Addressing the reporters, the Irani police station OC Jahangir Hossain stated that Ahid Ali, a resident of Pakhir Bazar village under Ichabpur village panchayat under Kailashahar police station, abducted a minor girl from an area in Irani police station on Tuesday afternoon i.e. October 25. On the following day, he raped the girl and sent her home. After the minor came home and narrated the incident to her parents, the minor’s mother filed a written complaint with Irani police station on October 26 last with the name of Ahid Ali.
Police registered the case and conducted a medical examination of the minor and arrested the accused Ahid Ali on the night of October 26 last. Accused Ahid Ali abducted the minor and raped her at a secluded place in Halaichhara area of Kailashahar, the OC said.
OC Hossain also said that the accused Ahid Ali confessed to the incident during police interrogation at the police station. Accused Ahid Ali was sent by the police to Kailashahar court on Thursday noon. Accused Ahid Ali, is said to be married and also has a son. The case number of the case against Ahid Ali is 85/2022 in Irani police station and the case has been taken under Section 363, 373 and POCSO Act.
In the past one week, there is intense tension in the public mind due to the rape of a minor girl in Unakoti district. Although the name of the minister’s son is not recorded in the FIR, every political party claimed that the incident took place in the rented house of the minister’s son.
So far, three rape incidents has been reported in two districts of Tripura during the past one week span. Two incidents are in Unakoti district and one in Khowai district.
