Agartala, October 29, 2022: Members of Manipuri Community-based organizations and students under the banner of “Manipuri Aikya Mancha” in Tripura staged a huge procession demanding justice for the minor girl victim of Kumarghat in Unakoti district.
The members marched through the streets of Kailashahar on Saturday evening carrying banners and placards seeking justice and demanded arrest of all the perpetrators and their capital punishment.
Earlier on Saturday, the protesters encircled Kailashahar police station followed by submission of memorandum to SDPO led by Premdas Sinha, Rana Sharma, Biva Devi, Suraj Sinha and Kapura Sinha which mentioned about the immediate arrest of perpetrators if there is any left and quick prosecution of all those accused.
On Friday, Nikhil Brishupriya Manipuri and Yuba Samsad, also held a protest rally in Dalugoan under Chandipur constituency.
With the passage of time, the incident became louder and louder across the state. People from all walks of irrespective of their political identity and religion walked in the rally for justice of rape victim who belongs to microscopic community of Tripura.
Supporters from all political parties including BJP, Congress, CPIM, Trinamool Congress and TIPRA Motha participated at the rallies in the state’s capital city.
Parallelly, there was another rally organised by BJP marching the same street in opposite direction threatening the conspirators who are disturbing law and order situation in Tripura. They also demanded that the involvement of the minister’s son was fabricated and a political one.
Notably, a gang-rape incident of 16-year old girl took place in a three-storey building at Kumarghat on October 19 last. A case was registered with Fatikroy police station on October 20 last under sections 376(3) and 109 of IPC and section 04 of POCSO Act. Police have arrested six persons in connection with the case. However, local people alleged that the main accused is still at large as he is son of minister Bhagaban Das.
