Taekwondo Training For Upcoming ‘North East Olympic Games 2022’ Underway In Sikkim

The Taekwondo Training camp of the Sikkim team for the forthcoming 2nd edition of ‘The Northeast Olympics Games 2022’ is underway at Government Senior Secondary School in Mangan District.

Organized by the Sikkim Olympic Association (SOA) in collaboration with the Sports & Youth Affairs Department, the camp began on October 24 and will culminate on November 5.

The team is supervised by the Deputy Director of the Sports & Youth Affairs Department of Mangan – Janim Lepcha, and Assistant Coach – Phurba Sherpa.

The team consists of 32 athletes. Out of which, 10 athletes are undergoing Poomase training in Gangtok, 22 athletes are currently being trained at Mangan, and 5 athletes are undergoing training in Mangan District.

It is worth noting that the 2nd Northeast Olympics Games, scheduled from November 10-16 in Meghalaya, will have over 3000 athletes from eight Northeastern states, competing in 18 different sports disciplines and 13 venues spread across Shillong.

Participants will compete under disciplines, including – archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, football, judo, karate, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, wushu, cycling (Mountain Bike), golf, weightlifting, and wrestling.

The state teams from Sikkim of all disciplines will leave for the games on November 8.
