Tripura: Mysterious Death Of 22-Year Old Woman In North District

Agartala, November 03, 2022: A mysterious death of a 22-year old woman allegedly for dowry took place at Tripura’s Paschim Chandrapur area under North Tripura district on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

Reportedly, Sanjita Haque of Uttar Hurua under North Tripura district was married to Askar Ali of Paschim Chandrapur was married two years back following social norms and currently they have an eleven-month old son. After few days, Askar started torturing his wife Sanjita to bring money from her father. Accordingly, Sanjita’s father Shafiq Miah continued to fulfil his son-in-law’s desire. But his demand for dowry did not stop.

In the recent past, Askar is alleged to have tortured his wife Sanjita demanding hefty amount for purchasing a car. It is learned that Sanjita’s father had sought sometime to fulfil the demand. But the tyranny continued to increase as both physical and mental torture is inflicted on Sanjita.

Thereafter, the quarrel is also reported to have been heated since Wednesday morning and an attempt was also being made to kill a 22-year old woman by pouring kerosene, said Shafiq Ali, father of Sanjita Haque on Thursday.

“Finally, Sanjita was killed and hanged with a rope around her neck”, alleging Shafiq demanded a fair investigation into the incident and a befitting punishment for his son-in-law.

Meanwhile, 27-year-old son-in-law Askar Ali said that he came from an invitation on Wednesday night. He opened the door and saw that his wife had committed suicide with a rope around her neck. He pulled his wife down and informed his in-laws and local police station. When the police reached the spot after 2.30 AM, Sanjita’s husband, sister-in-law, father-in-law and mother-in-law were all at home.

However, the police brought Askar Ali to the police station for questioning. He informed that the case will be accepted through investigation and the case will proceed on the right path of justice. Neither the locals nor the people of her father’s house can accept the death of Sanjita at the age of only 22 years, leaving behind an 11-month-old son.
