Agartala, November 04, 2022: After heinous incidents like gang-rapes in different corners of Tripura, an attempt has been made to kill a minor girl in Talibani-style at Teliamura under Khowai district on November 02 last during an arbitration meeting. However, police arrested five persons in connection to this incident on Friday.

Residents of Teliamura witnessed the brutal incident of a minor girl being beaten up in broad daylight in the area’s arbitration meeting on November 02 last and the video went viral in social media platforms. There has been a storm of condemnation everywhere in the incident, demands have been made to arrest the real culprits and give exemplary punishment.

It is reported that a minor girl of indigenous community from Chanlong area under Teliamura police station has been accused of having an affair with the father of two children from Tuisindrai Bari area of Teliamura sub-division. Following this incident on last Wednesday i.e. November 02, an arbitration meeting was held at the minor’s house in the presence of some of the ruling party leaders of the area including the Pradhan of Hawaiibari Gram Panchayat. During this arbitration meeting, a TSR jawan of the area dragged the minor girl out of the house. The men and women of the area along with that TSR jawan Biswajit Debbarma got together and practically tried to lynch the minor raining blows and lathis.

According to local sources, the accused TSR jawan Biswajit Debbarma’s son captured the incident on his mobile phone and made the video viral on social media.

Later, when the incident came to the attention of Teliamura media personnel on Thursday night, the incident was reported to the police. The Teliamura police station staff rushed to the victim’s home without delay and started an investigation.

A senior police official in condition of anonymity told Northeast Today that the minor girl and her father were brought to Teliamura police station. “A case with the police station yesterday. Accordingly, we have arrested five persons in connection to this incident”, the official added.

Meanwhile, according to reliable sources, pressure is being put on the family from the locality because of the fact that the minor’s family did not open up about the incident.
