Seven Rohingyas Held In Tripura

Agartala, November 04, 2022: Tripura police arrested seven Rohingyas without any documents at Ambassa in Dhalai district on Thursday evening.

Police sources informed that the Ambassa police station staff on Thursday evening detained a Maruti van bearing registration number TR01D-3891 at Betbagan CheckPoint on national highway (NH-08) with seven passengers who were proceeding towards North Tripura district from West Tripura.

During the search, the passengers were identified as Rohingyas. They disclosed their identity as Md. Ikbal Hossen (60), Abdul Gafur (30), Azim Ullah (22), Md Jahangir Alam (20), Jannat Ara (21), Sadiya Begam (19), and Dilbahar Begam (45). All hailed from Kutupalong area under Ukhia police station in Cox’s Bazar district of Bangladesh.

During preliminary interrogation, they disclosed that on November 02 last at about 12 midnight, they entered Indian territory through the international border boundary at Sonamura under Sepahijala district without any valid passport. During the investigation, all of them were arrested. In this regard a specific case was registered for further legal steps.

On the other hand, Dhalai district police achieved a major success against drug trafficking by seizing huge haul of narcotic substances on Friday as part of ‘Nesha Mukt’ (Drug-Free) Tripura.

Based on specific information, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Ambassa sub-division Suman Majumdar, Officer-In-Charge Ambassa police station Anupam Das along with other officers and staff detained one WagonR vehicle bearing registration number MZ-01-K7009 at Betbagan Checkpoint proceeding towards Agartala from Assam’s side.

During the search of the vehicle, police recovered 30,000 ‘Yaba’ tablets worth Rs 15 lakh and 150 grams of heroin worth Rs 15 lakh contained in 13 pouches. Accordingly police seized the contraband items along with the vehicle. Police arrested the driver of the vehicle namely Saharul Islam (24) of Kyastagram under Nilambazar police station in Assam. A specific case under NDPS Act has been registered for further legal action.

Meanwhile, Dhalai district police personnel led by SDPO of Longtharai Valley sub-division Sonacharan Jamatia, OC of Chailengta police station Alamgir Hossain conducted anti-narcotic raid at Mainama area near a mosque and detained Arup Debbarma of Mainama, Madhab Master Para with his scooty bearing registration number TR02H-5815. During the search, police recovered 47.39 grams of Brown Sugar contained in 100 plastic containers. Accordingly, police seized the drugs, scooty and arrested the accused person. A specific case under the NDPS Act has been registered.
