Assam: Drugs Worth Of Rs 15 Crores Seized From Sonapur; Manipur Resident Held

The Guwahati Police seized a massive stash of Yaba Tablets worth Rs 15 crores from a vehicle in Assam’s Kamrup (Metro) district.

Meanwhile, the security forces arrested a Manipur-based resident for allegedly transporting contraband drugs. The drug peddler, identified as Mohammad Ajmal Khan, is a resident of the Thoubal district of Manipur.

Based on specific inputs, a team of Guwahati police led by Joint Commissioner of Police Partha Sarathi Mahanta launched an operation and intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number DL-7CK-8778 at Nazirakhat toll gate near Sonapur.

Addressing the media persons, the Joint Commissioner of Police – Partha Sarathi Mahanta, noted that the Police recovered 60,000 Yaba tablets from the hidden chambers of the vehicle.

Taking to Twitter, the Assam Chief Minister – Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote “#AssamAgainstDrugs Commendable feat as @GuwahatiPol seizes 60,000 YABA tablets hidden inside a four-wheeler vehicle coming from a neighbouring state. Also apprehended an accused. @assampolice’s continued efforts against drugs are much appreciated. Keep it up

Meanwhile, the Assam Police also seized 20,000 YABA tablets from a four-wheeler vehicle travelling from Guwahati to Mankachar and arrested two accused in the operation.
