The Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS) and Labour Department – Lok Nath Sharma today flagged-off the Sikkim contingent for the forthcoming ‘North East Olympic Games 2022’, scheduled to be held in Meghalaya from November 10-16.
The Sikkim contingent consisting of 197 athletes (103 males and 94 females) and 31 officials is led by Bidhan Ballav Subba. The state is participating in 14 sports disciplines.
Addressing the flagging-off ceremony, the cabinet minister – LN Sharma conveyed the best wishes to the athletes, on behalf of Chief Minister – Prem Singh Tamang (Golay).
The Sikkim Olympic Association (SOA) also organized a programme to see off the Sikkim Contingent participating in the tournament. Track suits and shirts with Sikkim Organic logo was also released in the occasion.
Besides, the President of the SOA – Kuber Bhandari announced the cash awards for the medal winners.
The North East Olympic Games is an expression of solidarity by the north-eastern states of the country. Elite athletes congregate from the 8 north-eastern states to compete in various sporting disciplines.
It aims to encourage greater participation of youth in sporting activities in order to discover talent for higher level & international competitions at an early stage.
