The draft photo electoral rolls of all 60 Manipur Assembly Constituencies were published on Wednesday.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Manipur – Rajesh Agarwal, the general public/electors and representatives of political parties are free to inspect or verify the rolls.
Out of the 20,43,156 electorates, 9,88,704 voters are males, 10,54,245 are females and 207 are transgenders. The total number of polling stations are 2,955.
Besides, the CEO Manipur and Registrar of Manipur University flagged off a Walkathon from Manipur University Gate to Kakwa Bazar on the theme “A step for Participative Elections” organized in connection with the nationwide launch of special summary revision of 2023 rolls.
Agarwal appraised the participants on the significance of enrolling all unrolled eligible voters and stressed that the young voters can play a vital role in bringing a positive change toward development of the country.
The CEO Manipur recently met with representatives of recognized political parties. It was attended by the representatives of 10 recognized National/State political parties namely, All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), Janata Dal-United (JD-U), Indian National Congress (INC), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), National Peoples Party (NPP), Naga Peoples Front (NPF) and Peoples Democratic Alliance.
During the meeting, the CEO Manipur highlighted that, as per the recommendation of Election Commission of India, the Ministry of Law & Justice has amended the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
“The amendment covers the aspects of multiple qualifying dates for registration in the electoral roll, furnishing of Aadhaar number by the existing electors and citizens seeking registration in the electoral roll, gender neutral provisions for service electors and special electors and power to acquire premises for the conduct of elections,” he added.
