Nagaland sent a contingent of 236 athletes to represent the state in the forthcoming ‘North East Olympic Games 2022’, slated to be held in Meghalaya from November 10-16.
The Nagaland Contingent will participate in 17 out of 18 disciplines, including – Archery (30), Athletics (35), Badminton (14), Basketball (30), Boxing (16), Cycling (12), Football (24), Golf (2), Judo (12), Karate (12), Lawn Tennis (12), Shooting (8), Table Tennis (10), Taekwondo (19), Weightlifting (4), Wrestling (15), Wushu (11), Physiotherapist (3), Media Team (4), Officials (12).
According to an official communique issued by the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA), “The flag bearers for Nagaland Team are : Tsuchoi T from Noklak district, participating in the 5000M and 10,000M Athletics. She received the Outstanding Sportswomen Award at the Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games 2022 by winning 5 Gold medals in Athletics. Tsuchoi also clinched Gold medal in the 1500m Nagaland Olympic Run, 2022.”
Meanwhile, the athlete secured gold medals in 5000M, 10,000M, Bronze in 4x100m relay in the first edition of ‘North East Olympic Games 2018’. She won gold in 3000M at the East Zone 2016, and represented Nagaland at the National Games, Gujarat 2022.
“Zhokhoto Demo from Phek district, participating in the Indian Round Archer. He received the Outstanding Sportsman Award at the Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games 2022 by winning 5 Gold medals in Archery,” the communique further reads.
He clinched Gold in 3D Archery, Silver in Bair Bow Bamboo & Bronze in Field Archery Long Bow (28 rows) at the 2019 World Police Game And Fire in China, and represented Nagaland in the National Games, Gujarat 2022.
