Agartala, November 10, 2022: Appealing everyone to come together in making Tripura a ‘Drug-Free’ state, Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha on Thursday claimed that the state government has adopted a zero tolerance policy against narcotic substances.
Participating in a state level meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre at Civil Secretariat here in Agartala city on Thursday, Chief Minister Dr Saha said that the state government is working on the vision of union Home minister Amit Shah to call for the adoption of a zero tolerance policy against drugs.
During the discussion, the Chief Minister outlined the state government’s approach against drugs. He advised to work in coordination between the concerned departments in making Tripura drug free. He laid special emphasis on increasing the use of Dog Squad and training them along with the need for scanners in Check Point areas. He also mentioned that necessary action should be taken against those who have amassed huge money and property in various ways by being associated with drug trade.
In the meeting, Chief Secretary JK Sinha said that Tripura’s performance in the drug-free Tripura campaign was satisfactory. He said, there will be no compromise in the case of drugs. In this regard, he sought the assistance of the Narcotics Control Bureau. During the discussion, he also mentioned the remarkable work of the state’s Forensic Science Laboratory.
During the meeting, Kolkata-based Narcotics Control Bureau Eastern Deputy Director General Monika Ashish Batra said that the central government has agreed to open a zonal office of the Narcotics Control Bureau in the state. Initiatives will be taken to start this zonal office soon.
Besides, in this day’s meeting, Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan discussed the role of defense administration in the anti-narcotics campaign.
The chief secretary, secretaries of various departments of the state administration, along with Zonal Director of Narcotics Control Bureau, Guwahati, Sudhanshu Kumar Singh participated in the discussion.
