Agartala, November 12, 2022: Allegation surfaced against a Tripura’s BJP leader for not repaying loan of Rs 70,000, who took it from a helpless septuagenarian woman at Kali Tilla area under Uttar Charilam Gram Panchayat in Sepahijala district.

The 70-year old woman is an electorate of Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma’s assembly constituency while the BJP leader is a ‘Karyakarta’ of Scheduled Caste (SC) Morcha and active member Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.

Reportedly, a total amount of Rs 70,000 in two phases from an old woman Jyotsna Das, who is leaving without her husband and children. Almost four years have passed, the septuagenarian has met with several leaders of the ruling party, but nothing fruitful took place.

The SC Morcha leader named Gopal Das borrowed Rs 50,000 in the first phase and later, his brother-in-law Tapas Das also borrowed Rs 20,000 in the second phase from Jyotsna Das in 2019. Both the men confirmed that she would return the amount within six to seven months. Over three years passed off, there is no contact from the end of BJP leader Gopal Das.

As there is urgency of the money, she went to the BJP leader’s house, but he always skips away by blowing dust to her eyes. However, the old woman fell sick at home in 2021 and needed the money on an urgent basis. The old woman’s well-wishers went to the Mandal leader’s house several times. The leader told them that the money will be returned soon, but till now, she is yet to get the money. At present, Jyotsna is spending days in her house in a state of illness.

It is alleged that the BJP’s Yuva Morcha leader Gopal has planned to embezzle the entire amount. The helpless woman initially ran to the door of the local leadership. But no party workers, even the state-level leaders come forward to help the helpless women.

It is learned that there are several complaints against Gopal Das, a member of Yuva Morcha’s Charilam Mandal. There are complaints of motorcycle thefts. However, Bishalgarh police station staff recovered a stolen KTM bike from Charilam market and took it to the police station. The accused mandal member Gopal Das was the owner of the bike.

The 70-year old sick woman has drawn the attention of the Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma to intervene and help her.
