For the first time in the history of Mizoram, a ceremony based on handing over confiscated arms from Mizoram Firearms Bureau to Mizoram Police was held today at Arya Mess, PHQ, Aizawl.
The function was graced by the Home Minister – Lalchamliana as its Chief guest.
According to the Commissioner & Secretary of Home Department – H.Lalengmawia, and Chairman of Mizoram Firearms Bureau handed over the arms to Director General of Police (DGP) of Mizoram – Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS.
As per the provisions of Arms Rules 2016, the Mizoram Government constituted Firearms Bureau for the state on February 10, 2021, where Home Secretary of Mizoram Government serves as the Chairman. While, the AIGP (P&L) of Mizoram is Member Secretary and District Magistrate of Aizawl is its Member.
The Firearms Bureau is a body where all confiscated, recovered or surrendered firearms or ammunitions are deposited to be disposed off or destroyed by the Bureau.
Furthermore, the Firearms Bureau collects information about availability of firearms or ammunitions from all districts, which can be deposited to the Bureau.
The following 49 numbers of Firearms and 48 numbers of Grenade Shell were transferred and handed over to Mizoram Police from Mizoram Firearms Bureau. These includes – AK Type 56 Rifle (24), AK type 81 Rifle (8 nos), M4 A1 Carbine (7), MA3 MK-II Rifle (1), H&K Series Rifle (6), MA 3 MK-II Rifle Drum side Magazine with Bipod (2), Carbine BA94 MK-I (1), 40 mm Grenade Shell (48).
