Medicine From Sky: Hyderabad-Based Firm Delivers Livestock Vaccines Through Drones In Arunachal Pradesh

The Hyderabad-based firm – Indian Immunologicals Limited (IIL) along with the Union Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and Department of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry of Arunachal Pradesh delivered Livestock Vaccines through drones.

The livestock vaccines against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) were delivered from Roing to Paghlam in Arunachal Pradesh.

According to an official statement issued by IIL, these livestock vaccines were delivered through drones for the “first time in the world”.

“Pursuing the ‘Medicines from Sky’ initiative, IIL is proud to be part of the history for transporting FMD vaccine (Raksha-Ovac) through drone for the first time in Arunachal Pradesh today, organized by Dept of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt of India,” IIL tweeted.

Taking to Twitter, the Arunachal CM – Pema Khandu wrote “Launch of ‘Medicine From Sky’ has heralded a new dawn in Arunachal. Today for the first time livestock vaccines were delivered by drone from Kangkong to Paglam in Lower Dibang Valley district. The exercise was done with assistance of GoI and Techeagle Company.”

“Under the guidance of Hon PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, drone is being harnessed in Arunachal to further ‘ease of delivery’ and encourage the culture of innovation. Today’s exercise is a remarkable step towards ensuring ease of life in tough terrains of #ArunachalPradesh. Soaring high, delivering service. The drone takes off smoothly to ferry livestock vaccines in Lower Dibang Valley district.” he further added.

Around 1,000 doses of Raksha Ovac (FMD) vaccine were delivered covering an aerial distance of over 20 km.

Drone delivery of vaccines is expected to not only reach remote difficult terrains faster but also help in providing critical vaccines on time for the protection of livestock from several diseases, said the IIL in a press release on Monday.

The Arunachal Minister for Agriculture & Animal Husbandry – Upamanyu Basu, joint secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and other officials along from IIL were present for the event.

The Managing Director (MD) of IIL – Dr. K Anand Kumar noted that the drone delivery will help in making vaccines available to remote locations in India.

IIL is one of the largest producers of vaccines in Asia, which was set up by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) in 1982.
