The Manipur Government is taking all possible measures to promote the cultural extravaganza – Sangai Festival 2022, in the global arena, thereby promoting the glorious cultural legacy.
Organized by the Department of Tourism, the biggest 10-day cultural extravaganza will be hosted from November 21-30.
Besides, the state government has also hosted a curtain raiser event at Kangla in Imphal and Mao Gate on November 15, signifying the cultural diversity of Manipur, and made elaborate arrangements to host the event halted for nearly two years due to the COVID-19-induced lockdown.

The Manipur CM also flagged off the ‘Sangai Run 2022’ from Kangla Fort to Khuman Lampak. It heralds the arrival of the Sangai Festival, exhibiting the cultural diversity & heritage of Manipur to the world.

As part of the publicity campaign for the festival, the Manipur Chief Minister – N. Biren Singh, recently launched the official theme song for the ceremony titled ‘Manipur’, sung by the noted folk singer – Mangka Mayangalamba and her team.
The administration has identified thirteen venues across the state to organize various events for the festival. However, the main venue will be the Sangai Ethnic Park in Moirang Khunou, constructed at the periphery of the habitat of Sangai (cervus eldi eldi) – the State animal of Manipur.
Recently, the Manipur CM inspected the construction site of Sangai Ethnic Park at Moirang Khunou, along with the legislators and officials.
The ‘Festival of Oneness’ aims to showcase the state’s potential in Art & Culture, Handloom, Handicraft, Indigenous Sports, Cuisine, Music, Adventure sports, homestay, songs and dances, heritage walks, cherry blossom, etc., and is an attempt to promote Manipur as the next tourism destination.
The curtain raiser event recently held on October 23 in Kolkata solely focused on displaying the significance of the rich cultural heritage of Manipur and creating a shared value.
Visitors can witness 34 Traditional indigenous huts, fashion shows, Sangai Run, Tourism Pavilion, Longman, Flower Show, Indigenous Cultural Programmes, Night Tourism, Handloom and Handicrafts, Tug-of-War, Arambai Show, Mukna competition, Yubi Lakpi, Sagol Lamjei (Horse Race), Arambai, Men’s International Polo Tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung, CM’s Sagol Kangjei Tournament at Kangla, Film Screenings, MMA among others.
Dubbed after the State Animal, the brow-antlered deer or Eld’s deer, or Sangai deer, the festival celebrates the uniqueness of its only home -Manipur.
It brings to light some of the best indigenous handlooms and handicraft products. One can witness the creativity of the tribes through their unique handloom and handicrafts exhibited in the global arena along with the three GI tagged Handlooms from Manipur – Wangkhei Phee, Sa phee-lan-phee, and Moirang phee.
