Tripura: Agartala To Get Asia’s Largest Fountain In Ujjayanta Palace’s Lake

Agartala, November 16, 2022: Asia’s largest fountain of 120 metres long will be installed in one of the lakes of Ujjayanta Palace here as part of ‘Smart Cities Mission’ within January 2023, said CEO of Agartala Smart City Limited (ASCL) Dr Shailesh Kumar Yadav on Tuesday.

A meeting of the City Level Advisory Forum (CLAF) was chaired by the union minister of state Pratima Bhoumik at the conference hall of Agartala Municipal Corporation here this morning. This meeting has been attended by CEO of ASCL and AMC Commissioner Dr SK Yadav, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, MLA Dr Dilip Das and 14 members hailed from different professions.

Speaking to media personnel on the sidelines of the CLAF meeting, Dr Yadav said that the meeting focused on the works done under ASCL, funds spent and what is still left to be done. “The central government released Rs 294 crore and the state government gave Rs 78 crore. The total amount stands at Rs 372 crore and out of this, works worth Rs 342 crore has been completed so far. In total, 67 projects were enlisted and among them, 49 have been completed while 17 projects are still going on”, he added.

Citing some of the bigger projects, ASCL’s CEO said “An amount of Rs 51 crore has been sanctioned for four-lane Airport road and targeted to complete by January 2023. Another project work at the premises of Ujjayanta Palace is going on with the fund financed from ADB which will have Asia’s largest fountain of 120 metres long with laser lights and expected to be completed by January 2023. Beautification of MBB College lake has already started.”

Apart from this, Dr Yadav said “The water-logging problem of Agartala city has been mitigated with installation of five pumps and construction of 13 KMs long covered drains. Integrated Command Control Centre has been opened. Parks and Lakes have been renovated. Recently, the Haora River Front Development Project has started which will be 2 KMs long and good for walking, cycling, running, etc.”

He claimed that this meeting has been held to let the citizens know what work has been done so far and what to be done in the coming days. This will boost up the public support for smooth continuation of Smart City work in the capital city.

Taking the CLAF meeting in social media handle, MoS Pratima Bhoumik said that the state and central governments are determined to beautify Agartala as a ‘Smart City’. “As part of that, the full team meeting of the Advisory Committee was held on Tuesday. Agartala city was brought under Smart City under the supervision of Venkaiah Naidu Ji, then Urban Development Minister. The work of Agartala Smart City is progressing at a fast pace with the efforts of AMC Mayor Deepak Majumder, all councilors and officials.”

“As part of this, various parks in the heart of the city, beautification of ponds and the streets of the city are being beautified. Moreover, two major roads in Agartala – one from the airport to Agartala city and the other from the city to Akhaura check post – are undergoing rapid upgrading. Besides, many other works are going on under the Smart City, including better quality bus stand, beautification of Ranipukur. The water drainage system which is the main problem of Agartala city was also discussed in the meeting. Elbert Ekka Park has been developed under Agartala Smart City, which is a pride for everyone. The work of beautification and smart city in Agartala will continue in the coming days. Finally thanks to all the officials who make the city so beautiful”, she added.
