Agartala, November 23, 2022: A 14-year old boy committed suicide after firing himself from a country-made gun while his 9-year old sister sustained grievous injuries on the afternoon of Tuesday last at Tripura’s Jalachandra Karbari Para under Manikpur police station in Longtharai Valley sub-division of Dhalai district.
The deceased teenager’s name is Danimoy Chakma (14) and the name of the injured younger sister is Lakshirani Chakma (9), children of Surajoy Chakma.
Reportedly, around 3.30 PM on Tuesday last, Surajoy Chakma’s teenage son Danimoy Chakma was seen by his younger sister Lakshmirani going to the forest near the house with a local friend in Jalachandra Karbari Para.
After going to the forest, Danimoy fired a shot aiming at his chest and died on the spot. The younger sister was injured by a bullet in the chest when she tried to stop her brother from committing suicide.
Receiving information, SDPO of Longtharai Valley sub-division Sonacharan Jamatia and OC of Manikpur police station rushed to the spot along with a mobile forensics team.
The body was brought to the sub-divisional hospital at Chawmanu for post-mortem while the injured Lakshirani is undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
The country-made used in suicide was recovered from the crime scene. The investigation is underway whether this suicide was due to family dispute or any other reason.
The police have registered a suo-moto case of 05/2022 under section 326 IPC and section 25(1A) Arms Act.
