Tripura To Get India’s First Buddhist Varsity; Foundation Stone To Be Laid On November 29

Agartala, November 27, 2022: The foundation stone of the Dhamma Dipa International Buddhist University, the first Buddhist university of its kind in India will be unveiled at Sabroom Helipad in South Tripura district on November 29 around 2 PM.

In a press conference at Agartala Press Club, Bahujana Hitaya Education Trust’s chairman venerable Dr Dharmapriya Dhammapiya said that the foundation stone of the DDIBU will be unveiled by a number of distinguished Sanyan guests, including Venerable Shakya Gasan, Buddhist Monk of the Republic of Korea – Head of the Organization of Buddhist Monks – Nun Bhikkhuni Mani of the Republic of Korea, Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Venerable Chou-Namin, an ardent Buddhist who has supported several Buddhist efforts in North-East region.

Besides, senior Buddhist monk from Thailand, Venerable Dr Porntai Pinyapong and others. His Holiness the Dalai Lama unfortunately will not be able to attend physically, but has already sent a message of his spiritual participation, he added.

A press communique of BHET also stated “In this context, the government of Tripura has extended full support in setting up the first-ever Buddhist university at Sabroom while local MLA Shankar Roy has been unwavering in his support to BHET and has been with this project since its inception.”

“On the evening of November 29 next, there will be a cultural program organized by DDIBU for the honoured guests, especially for the VIPs, foreign monks and monks based at Dhamma Dipa Campus in Manubakul, Sabroom under South Tripura district. Sincere efforts are being made to bring Mithun Chakraborty as the guest of honor to the cultural evening keeping in mind the local sentiments”, the statement reads.

It is worthy to mention here that this university will set a precedent in the history of Indian-Buddhism in promoting and reviving Buddhist culture in India, the birthplace of Buddhism. Dhammadipa International Buddhist University embodies four distinct characteristics: the word, Dhammadipa, describes both a core principle and a guiding force, which seeks the light of Dharma, its international scope and measure. , and finally “The University contributes to the highest level of knowledge and education. DD IBU hopes to better engage the contemporary world through the insight and depth of Buddhist words. At the same time, it is keen to prepare students and youth with knowledge and skills, so that they can live healthy, peaceful and contented lives, able to lead the way of life.

Meanwhile, Dhammadipa International Buddhist University Bill was passed on September 26, 2022 by the Tripura Legislative Assembly.
