The Sikkim Chief Minister – Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) visited Pathing in Yangang under Namchi district to assess the damage caused by the ongoing landslide on the area.
He was accompanied by the cabinet ministers – Kunga Nima Lepcha, Bedu Singh Panth, Bhim Hang Subba, LB Das, Area MLA Mrs. Rajkumari Thapa, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Namchi – Anant Jain, SDM (HQ) – Chiran Rizal, Head of Departments (HoDs) and officials of line departments, Namchi and Yangang Sub division, local gentry and the public in general.
During the interaction with local populace along with the line departments, he assured to extend every possible support to the people affected by the calamity and directed the officials to be alert, dedicated and concerned to ensure necessary assistance to the people residing along the location.
The Chief Minister announced an instant relief package of Rs 1,30,000 from Land Revenue and Rs 50, 000 from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
He further provided Rs. 1 Lakh to the individuals who lost their livestock due to the landslide, sanctioned under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) and assured to render employment in government establishment to the affected families.
The Chief Minister also directed the concerned officials of the Land Revenue Department to acquire 10 acres of land in the area for SGAY housing/flats to be constructed by the Rural Development Department (RDD).
He instructed them to build temporary accommodation as soon as possible with funds from CMRF (infrastructure & maintenance).
Similarly, line departments were directed to provide potable water to the affected people and other necessary assistance.
He directed the Land Revenue, Mines and Geology department to visit the area as soon as possible to discern the cause of these landslides.
