Nearly eight persons were killed and several injured, after a bus carrying them for a study tour met with a fatal road accident at the Old Cachar Road in the Noney District.

According to UNI report, the bus carrying students of Thambalnu Higher Secondary School in Imphal East district, slid down a gorge and was completely overturned. Three are reported to be critically-injured.

Most of the injured persons received medical treatment at the Bishnupur district hospital, and some were referred to a multi-speciality hospital in Imphal West.

Besides, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Medical Team and legislators immediately rushed to the spot to coordinate the rescue operation.

Taking to social media platforms, the Manipur Chief Minister – N. Biren Singh wrote “Deeply saddened to hear about the accident of a bus carrying school children at the Old Cachar Road today. SDRF, Medical team and MLAs have rushed to the site to coordinate the rescue operation. Praying for the safety of everyone in the bus.”
