Guwahati, July 14, 2023: Sivasagar district in Assam was jolted by an oil pipeline leak incident on Friday, raising concerns about potential road damage and fueling local discontent. While no casualties have been reported so far, the continuous oil leakage from the burst pipeline in Kharagarh Ali has stirred up a major uproar in the area.
Sources have alleged that the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) authorities have endangered lives by employing outdated pipes for oil supply. The local community is seething with anger towards the authorities, accusing them of negligence and the lack of permanent solutions.
For over a month, these substandard pipes have wreaked havoc in the area, resulting in numerous pipeline bursts. Just four days ago, a family had to bear the brunt of the leaking oil as their home was extensively coated in the hazardous substance.
The incident has heightened anxiety among residents, who are demanding immediate action and accountability from ONGC to address the issue of poor maintenance. The ongoing oil spillage has not only disrupted daily life but also raised concerns about the environmental impact and the long-term consequences for the community.
