Guwahati, July 15, 2023: In a recent development, Assam Rifles made a significant breakthrough by intercepting a vehicle in Cachar district and seizing a substantial amount of explosives on Saturday.

The recovery included 400 gelatine sticks and 400 detonators. The operation led to the arrest of a 24-year-old individual identified as Prosonjit Baishnab. Authorities believe that the explosives were being transported to Manipur, as per credible reports.

Another successful operation took place on July 11 last when the Srikona Battalion of Agartala Sector Assam Rifles discovered 24 soap cases containing heroin worth approximately Rs 2 crore in the Lakhipur subdivision of Cachar district.

According to an official statement, four individuals were apprehended on July 10 last while attempting to smuggle the drugs from Manipur to Assam.

Following these significant seizures, the recovered contraband and the arrested individuals were handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for further legal proceedings, as stated by the authorities.

The prevalence of drug trafficking in the North East region, which shares proximity to the Golden Triangle, remains a grave concern. Assam Rifles, aptly referred to as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast,’ have been unwavering in their efforts to combat narco-terrorism, which continues to fuel insurgency in the area.

This operation dealt a major blow to the drug-fueled insurgency, aiming to prevent the youth from succumbing to the perils of drug abuse. The statement concluded by affirming Assam Rifles’ commitment to strive for a society free from the clutches of drugs, ensuring the well-being of the region.
