Guwahati, July 24, 2023: The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central district), Sanjay Kumar Sain, has taken decisive action by suspending three policemen who are accused of accepting a bribe of Rs 12 lakh from a relative of a minister in Arunachal Pradesh. The suspension order was initiated based on a complaint received by Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora from the Arunachal Pradesh police.
The suspended officers comprise an inspector, a sub-inspector, and an assistant sub-inspector. As per the suspension order, they will be entitled to receive a subsistence allowance equivalent to their earnings on half-pay leave, along with dearness allowance and other regular allowances during the suspension period. However, they will be restricted from leaving the designated Headquarter without prior permission from the competent authority.
The incident came to light during the investigation of an interstate gang involved in vehicle theft. The Anti Auto Theft Squad of the Central district police recently apprehended three individuals in connection with the gang’s activities. During interrogation, one of the suspects revealed that stolen high-end SUVs were being sold in North Eastern States, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Manipur.
Deputy Commissioner Sain disclosed that the stolen vehicles were transported to these states via road, and then their engine and chassis numbers were tampered with before registering them at Regional Transport Offices. This elaborate scheme allowed the criminals to use scrapped vehicle details to get the stolen cars registered as legitimate.
During their investigation in Arunachal Pradesh, Delhi Police personnel discovered a shocking revelation. They found that the stolen SUVs, including popular models like Fortuner, Kia Seltos, Innova Crysta, Hyundai Creta, and Mahindra Thar, were being actively used by individuals in the North Eastern states. This discovery triggered suspicion, and it is alleged that the three suspended policemen were involved in extorting money from a local individual during their visit to the northeastern state.
Now, the Vigilance wing of the Delhi Police will conduct further investigations into this case to uncover the full extent of the bribery scandal and bring those responsible to justice.
