Two Convicted Rapists Receive Life Imprisonment In Majuli, Assam

Guwahati, August 01, 2023: The Court of Special Judges in Majuli in Assam has awarded life imprisonment to two individuals found guilty of raping a minor girl.

Identified as Ratul Bharali and Manash Bharali, the convicted culprits will also have to pay a fine of ₹20,000 each, with the amount being awarded to the victim as compensation for the heinous crime committed against her.

Director General of Police, GP Singh, took to Twitter to announce the outcome of the case, highlighting the significance of the judgment.

The case, registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and referred to as Garamur police station Case No. 02/2023, was brought before the Court of Special Judge: Majuli, identified as Special Case No. 47/2023.

The tragic incident unfolded in the Jorbeel area of the Majuli district on January 28, 2023, when a young girl was discovered with multiple injuries on her body. She was immediately taken to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) for urgent medical attention and care.

Prompt action was taken by the police upon receiving a complaint from the survivor’s family, leading to the swift arrest of the two culprits, Ratul Bharali and Manash Bharali.

The court, after thorough proceedings, found both individuals guilty of an aggravated sexual assault on the minor girl, resulting in the severe sentence of life imprisonment and Rigorous Imprisonment for the perpetrators. This verdict stands as a testament to the commitment of the legal system to protect the vulnerable and bring justice to the victims of such heinous crimes.
