Guwahati, August 03, 2023: The violence in Manipur escalated on Wednesday morning as heavy firing broke out between security forces and unidentified assailants in Senjam Chirang area of Imphal West district, sources said.
The firing started around 5 am and was still going on at the time of filing this report, sources added.
According to sources, two people were injured in the exchange of fire, one of them a member of the village defence protection force and the other a Manipur Police personnel.
The state has been witnessing a spate of violent incidents, including arson and stone-pelting, in the wake of the border dispute with neighbouring Assam.
