Assam: Japanese Encephalitis Outbreak Claims Lives In Boko Area: Two Confirmed Deaths, Two More Suspected

Guwahati, August 07, 2023: An alarming outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis has struck the Boko area of Assam, claiming two lives and raising concerns about two more suspected deaths, as revealed by officials.

The Sub-Divisional Medical Officer (SDMO) Mantu Kumar Das confirmed that Hari Pathak, aged 58, lost his life in the Bhalukghata area on July 28, and Juli Das, aged 35, passed away in the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital on August 4, both falling victim to JE.

SDMO Das expressed further worries, stating that two more fatalities are suspected to be linked to Japanese Encephalitis. The deceased individuals were identified as Jaharun Bibi from Jambari village, under the Chaygaon LAC, and Arup Das from Sekhadari village, both of whom also passed away in July.

Urging residents to take immediate precautions, SDMO Mantu Kumar Das called on the people of the Boko area to stay vigilant. Japanese Encephalitis outbreaks are common during the months of June, July, and August, emphasizing the importance of adopting safety measures to safeguard against the virus.
