Agartala, October 26, 2023: A 24-year-old woman from Bangladesh was arrested by the Tripura’s Churaibari police in northern district on Wednesday night for allegedly crossing the border into India without any valid documents. She was accompanied by her lover, who is an Indian national and a self-proclaimed traditional healer, but he managed to flee from the police.

The woman has been identified as Fatema, a resident of Moulvibazar area of Bangladesh. She is married and has a child. She fell in love with Noor Jalal alias Saddam, who hails from North Fulbari in North Tripura district, when he visited Bangladesh for his work as a ‘Kabiraj’ (traditional healer). The duo decided to elope and enter India with the hope of starting a new life together.

However, their plan was foiled when the police received a tip-off about their illegal entry and raided their hideout. The police team, comprising of women personnel, nabbed Fatema but Saddam escaped by throwing dust in their eyes. The police said that Saddam is a fake traditional healer and popularly known as a ‘Quack’. He has been involved in several cases of cheating and fraud. He was also thrashed by a mob in Agartala, the capital city of Tripura, for his misdeeds.

Fatema was produced before the Dharmanagar CJM court on Thursday and was sent to judicial custody. The police have launched a manhunt to nab Saddam and are investigating the case further.
