In a distressing incident, a 21-year-old man, identified as Ajay Dutta, reportedly hanged himself in Assam’s Golaghat district on Tuesday, leaving behind a video message on social media in which he blamed the police for pushing him to this extreme step. Dutta accused the police officers of assaulting him during an immersion procession without any justifiable reason.

In the video message, Ajay Dutta said that he was trying to intervene in a scuffle between a group of youths when the police allegedly apprehended him and subjected him to physical abuse.

He narrated , “The driver of the police vehicle punched me in the face, and traffic police personnel beat me severely on my stomach and arms, all without any valid cause. I had not committed any crime; I was merely attempting to stop the scuffle.”

Tragically, Ajay Dutta’s lifeless body was discovered hanging from a tree near a riverbank, approximately 1 kilometer from his residence in Doloumukh village.

The officer-in-charge of the Dergaon police station, Rabindra Barbarua, revealed, “We received information about the incident and promptly arrived at the scene on Tuesday night. However, the recovery of the body was delayed until Wednesday morning, following the arrival of a magistrate, in adherence to established protocol.”

Moreover, Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP), GP Singh has expressed profound distress over this suicide and has instructed the Superintendent of Police in Golaghat to investigate the incident, establish accountability, and take necessary legal action.
