Agartala, December 08, 2023: In a crucial development during the ongoing Rajya Sabha session, Member of Parliament Biplab Kumar Deb today passionately raised the demand for the swift implementation of the latest Instrument Landing System (ILS) at Agartala MBB Airport. The call comes as several state-bound flights faced disruptions and had to divert to neighboring airports due to adverse weather conditions, emphasizing the need for enhanced landing capabilities.
Former Tripura Chief Minister and incumbent MP Biplab Kumar Deb, highlighted the pressing issue, urging authorities to prioritize passenger comfort by introducing an upgraded ILS system with the necessary permissions from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Deb pointed out that the state-of-the-art MBB airport currently operates under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), but recent complications arising from an update to the Airport Lighting System (ALS) have hindered emergency landing and direction guidance. The experimental phase has concluded, and pending DGCA approval, the enhanced ILS system is poised to facilitate aircraft landings even in inclement weather.
With the winter season exacerbating challenges like heavy fog, Deb stressed the critical role the advanced ILS system would play in ensuring uninterrupted aircraft landings. He urged the DGCA to expedite approval, emphasizing the significant inconvenience faced by passengers when flights are rerouted to neighboring airports, resulting in both time and financial losses.
Additionally, MP Biplab Kumar Deb brought attention to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw regarding the need for overbridges in the ongoing railway construction in the state.
In a contrasting development, Left Member of Parliament Dr. Sivadeshan from Kerala proposed the abolition of the post of Governor across the country. Deb, opposing the motion, underscored the undeniable role of the Governor in facilitating communication between the Center and the State in the parliamentary system. He criticized the communists, citing instances of their disregard for constitutional norms, including the absence of the national flag in the Tripura Chief Minister’s room during their government’s tenure. Deb emphasized the communists’ historical anti-constitutional stance and highlighted their gradual adoption of national symbols in the face of changing circumstances.
