Assam: Several Candidates From Major Political Parties Set To File Their Nominations Today

In the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, several candidates from major political parties have begun the formal process of filing their nominations.

Today marks a significant milestone as key contenders from various parties are set to submitted their nominations, setting the stage for an intense electoral battle in Assam.

Sarbananda Sonowal, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), will reportedly file his nomination papers at the office of the Dibrugarh district commissioner.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and top leadership from allied parties will graced the occasion, underscoring the BJP’s strong support for Sonowal’s candidacy, as reported.

Additionally, Pradan Baruah of the BJP is also set to submit his nomination for the Lakhimpur seat, further solidifying the party’s electoral strategy.

In a parallel development, Lurinjyoti Gogoi, backed by the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and alliance parties, set to formalise his bid for the upcoming elections by submitting his nomination papers for the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency.

Meanwhile, Gaurav Gogoi, representing the Indian National Congress, will file his nomination papers for the Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency.

Reportedly, State Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah will accompany Gogoi during this pivotal moment, demonstrating the party’s united front.

The momentum continued to build as Rosalina Tirkey, Congress’ candidate for the Kaziranga Lok Sabha constituency, will be joined by party president Bhupen Bora during the filing of nomination papers.

With elections for the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam scheduled in three phases on April 19, April 26, and May 7, the political landscape is set for a high-voltage battle.

Notably, constituencies such as Kaziranga, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat will go to the polls in the first phase on April 19.

As anticipation mounts and candidates intensify their campaigns, Assam braces itself for a consequential electoral showdown between the ruling BJP, the opposition Congress, and other regional parties in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The results of the elections will be declared on June 4, marking the culmination of a rigorous electoral process that will shape the future trajectory of Assam’s political landscape.
