Agartala, April 01, 2024: In anticipation of the forthcoming Lok Sabha election, Tripura Police has initiated rigorous security measures across the state, yielding substantial outcomes including the seizure of narcotics valued at Rs 3 crore and the pre-emptive detainment of 12,000 individuals.
Sources within Tripura Police divulged that a meticulously devised plan has been set in motion to ensure a tranquil electoral process devoid of any tumultuous incidents.
A top official of the Tripura Police in condition of anonymity told Northeast Today that proactive measures were taken to solicit support from both the Central government and the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). Consequently, a contingent of 70 CAPF companies has been dispatched to Tripura.
Additionally, the state has mobilized 5000 Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel and established over 350 Flying Squad Teams (FST) and Static Surveillance Teams (SST) across its expanse. With more than 1000 vehicle checkpoints and over 100 permanent checkpoints in operation, security has been significantly fortified, as emphasized by the police official.
Moreover, the intensified security measures have catalyzed a surge in search operations and flag marches across Tripura. Notably, from March 1st to March 27th, CAPF alone has conducted over 1700 flag marches and scrutinized more than 1.25 lakh vehicles, resulting in fines amounting to over Rs 1 crore. Furthermore, confiscated contraband including narcotics, liquor, and gambling paraphernalia, valued at over Rs 3.5 crore, have been seized.
In a concerted effort to ensure the effective implementation of security protocols, senior officers are undertaking regular visits to districts to brief the forces and evaluate the law and order scenario. District SPs, Additional SPs, and SDPOs are actively engaging with personnel at interior police stations and camps to provide motivation and bolster support for the cause.
Under the auspices of Tripura Police, a Joint Control Room has been activated, with key officials such as the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), District Superintendents of Police (SPs), District Magistrates, and Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) intricately involved in coordinating flag marches and monitoring the prevailing situation.
