Agartala, April 1, 2024: In a dramatic turn of events, Kolkata police have apprehended a suspect accused of kidnapping a minor girl, allegedly luring her into marriage. The case took a harrowing twist when it was revealed that the perpetrator also had an eleven-month-old child in his custody, ended with intervention of cops.

The suspect, identified as Jhuman Mia, was reportedly caught by officers from the Jorasanko police station after a frantic search operation. According to police sources, the alarm was raised when authorities in Tripura tipped off their Kolkata counterparts, revealing Mia’s alleged involvement in the abduction.

Upon receiving the information, police officials swiftly moved to track down Mia, ultimately locating him in a hotel under Jorasanko police station. It was there that the 17-year-old minor girl, along with her infant child, were found and rescued from Mia’s custody.

Following his arrest, Mia was brought before the Bankshall court on Sunday, where he was remanded in custody until April 4th. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to initiate legal proceedings to return both Mia and the rescued minor to Tripura, where the alleged abduction took place, a police official told Northeast Today on Monday.

This development marks a significant breakthrough in the case, shedding light on the pervasive issue of child abduction and trafficking in the region. Authorities remain vigilant as they work to ensure justice for the victims and hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
