MANAGE, a National Level Institute Collaborates with COF-CAU Tripura for Gender Training

Agartala, May 20, 2024: National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India collaborated and extended funding support to College of Fisheries, Tripura under the Central Agricultural University (Imphal) for hosting an Online Collaborative Training Programme-2024-25 on ‘Gender Mainstreaming in Agriculture’ during 20-22 May, 2024.

The content of the training program was designed to fulfil the needs of the participants by incorporating gender-mainstreaming principles into agriculture and allied sectors. By which, societies can enhance the overall efficiency, sustainability, and resilience of the agriculture and allied sectors while promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment.

As far as the fisheries sector is concerned, India is bestowed with vast and varied inland fisheries resources and the North-Eastern Region (NER) is a prime contributor to the inland resources as well as involvement of primary stakeholders in this sector.

Director General (DG), MANAGE, Hyderabad, graced the Inaugural Function as the Chief Guest on Monday. He emphasized the key areas of Gender Mainstreaming with a special mention on fisheries sector and the arenas where MANAGE can facilitate different stakeholders.

Prof. A. B. Patel, Dean of the college spoke on the Gender Issues in Fisheries, w.r.t. NER Region and the Gender responsive interventions of the college for the fisher-folks. In his speech, he commended the meticulous efforts and initiatives of the Course Director, Dr. Amitava Ghosh for designing such programme in a timely manner. Prof. Patel also acknowledged the support and guidance of Dr. Anupam Mishra, Vice Chancellor CAU (Imphal).

As part of the programme, Prof. A. D. Upadhyay welcomed all the participants & dignitaries, and Dr. Veenita Kumari, Deputy Director (Gender Studies), MANAGE, Hyderabad briefed the programme. Y. J. Singh, Umesh Khatri, and Atom A. Singh are among the technical team members for the training. Eminent speakers were invited for deliberations in 12 online sessions, few among them are Prof. D. Basu, Vice-Chancellor, UBKV, West Bengal, Dr. Arpita Sharma, Principal Scientist & Head, Division of Social Science, ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai, Dr. Arunasis Goswami, Professor, WBUAFS, Kolkata etc., who are specialized in Gender aspects.

A total of 125 participants across India were shortlisted for participation.
