Imphal, July 15: In a tragic incident, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan, Ajay Kumar Jha, 43, from Bihar, was fatally attacked by suspected Kuki militants in Jiribam’s Mongbung village on Sunday.
A team comprising Manipur Police and CRPF personnel was heavily fired upon by suspected armed Kuki militants in Mongbung village, Jiribam. Manipur Police control room said “the security forces were conducting checks on security deployment and investigating a previous night’s firing incident in the area when they were attacked with sophisticated weapons from multiple locations”.
In the ensuing encounter, which lasted 15-20 minutes, the security forces retaliated. Tragically, CRPF driver Ajoy Kumar Jha (43), hailing from Maghupur, Madhubani Bihar, was martyred. Additionally, two Manipur Police personnel, SI K. Romendro and Rifleman Robindro, sustained splinter injuries and were evacuated to Jiribam Hospital for treatment. Both are reported to be out of danger.
Senior officials have led reinforcements to the site, and operations are ongoing. Combing operations will continue to apprehend those responsible for the attack. The police department is closely monitoring the situation.
The incident has raised concerns over the security situation in the region.
