In a decisive move to tackle illegal immigration from neighboring Myanmar, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced that biometric details of 24 individuals of Myanmar origin have been collected in the Tengnoupal district. This effort is part of a broader strategy to identify and curb illegal immigration in the region.

The operation was carried out by a combined team comprising state police, Assam Rifles personnel, and government officials in Govajang village. The team identified and recorded the biometric data of the individuals as part of the state’s ongoing efforts to re-verify and re-identify residents in border areas.

Chief Minister Singh shared this update on Facebook, highlighting that the search operation was led by officials including Md. Ejaj of Tengnoupal and the SDO of Moreh. The initiative aims to strengthen security and ensure accurate identification of individuals residing near the border.

The identification process had previously faced interruptions due to violence in the region but resumed in July last year. Singh expressed his gratitude to the security personnel and officials involved for their dedicated efforts in conducting the operation.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister announced plans to continue biometric data collection exercises in Moreh and adjacent areas.
